Which types of health products can be brought into Thailand?

Businessman or tourists who need to travel to Thailand may find it necessary to bring along certain personal health products. It’s well-known that every country has restrictions on the importation of medicines and herbal supplements, which must be handled with extreme caution. Let’s see which types of health products are permitted to be brought into Thailand according to Thai law.

Food products, beverages, and seasoning products

  • Milk and milk-based products, coffee beans, ready-to-drink beverages, dried vegetables, and fruits: not exceeding 5 kilograms or 5 liters.
  • Instant coffee, tea, dry sweeteners, dry herbal seasonings, and dried animal products: not exceeding 1 kilogram.
  • Dietary supplements for consumption within 6 months: not exceeding 1 item per type (total of not more than 10 items).
  • Snacks, noodle products, grains, processed animal meat, fresh and processed fruits and vegetables: not exceeding 10 kilograms or 10 liters.
  • Liquid sweeteners, sauces, liquid/semi-liquid seasonings, oils and fats, non-alcoholic beverages: not exceeding 10 kilograms or 10 liters.
  • Baby food, medical foods, breast milk: not exceeding 10 kilograms or 10 liters.

Medicines, medical devices, herbal products, and cosmetics

  • Medicines for personal use not exceeding 30 days.
  • Medical devices in quantities necessary for personal use, accompanied by detailed documentation of the medical device + a letter explaining the purpose and certification that it will not be sold + a physician’s certificate.
  • Psychoactive substances of types 2-4 for personal use must have a physician’s prescription.
  • Controlled substances can only be imported for personal treatment, with prior authorization from the Narcotics Control Board.
  • Herbal products for personal use not exceeding 90 days (must provide details for verification).
  • Cosmetics, not exceeding 6 items per type and not exceeding a total of 30 items.
  • ** Importing cosmetics and herbal products containing marijuana or hemp is prohibited.

Household items (containing hazardous chemicals) for personal use

Hazardous substances used in households:

  • Type 1: Must declare truthfully before importation.
  • Type 2 and 3: Finished products for personal use, not exceeding 5 kilograms or 5 liters.
