Update on All Electric Train Routes in Thailand for 2024

Thailand today offers an excellent public transportation system, providing a convenient option for MICE travelers attending events, especially those held in Bangkok or its surrounding areas. 

Currently, the BTS and MRT electric train services have expanded their routes, enhancing the ease and flexibility of travel in both inner Bangkok and its suburban areas. Let’s take a look at the electric train network available in 2024, as well as upcoming routes set to launch in the future.

Electric Train Routes Currently in Service

• Light Green Line (Sukhumvit Line): Mo Chit – Kheha Samut Prakan (BTS) This route runs from Mo Chit to Kheha Samut Prakan, passing through key areas such as Victory Monument, Siam Square, Ratchaprasong, Asoke, and Phrom Phong.

• Light Green Line (Mo Chit – Saphan Mai – Khu Khot): Extended RouteStarting from Ha Yaek Lat Phrao station, this extension connects suburban areas to the city’s business districts, passing through Lat Phrao Intersection, Ratchayothin, Kaset Intersection, and Lak Si.

• Dark Green Line (Silom Line): National Stadium – Bang Wa (BTS) This route connects Thonburi to central Bangkok, passing through WongwianYai, Krung Thonburi, and Saphan Taksin.

• Blue Line (Bang Sue – Hua Lamphong): MRT The Blue Line runs from Bang Sue to Hua Lamphong, passing through major business areas like Silom, Sukhumvit, Asoke, and Ratchadaphisek, which are hubs for shopping malls and renowned hotels.

• Blue Line (Hua Lamphong – Lak Song): MRT This section passes through Bangkok’s old town areas, including Sanam Chai, Charoen Krung, and Sam Yot.

• jBlue Line (Tao Poon – Tha Phra): MRT Tha Phra station serves as a key interchange for the Thonburi side of Bangkok.

• Airport Rail Link (Phaya Thai – Suvarnabhumi): ARL A crucial route connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport to central Bangkok. Phaya Thai station links to the Green Line, Phetchaburi station connects to the Blue Line, and Hua Mak station connects to the Yellow Line.

• Purple Line (Tao Poon – Khlong Bang Phai): MRT This route travels from Bang Yai in Nonthaburi to Bangkok, connecting at Bang Sue station.

• Gold Line: A short route serving 4 stations: Krung Thon Buri, Charoen Nakhon, Khlong San, and Prajadhipok.

• Dark Red Line (Bang Sue – Rangsit): Starting from Bang Sue Grand Station (Bangkok Apiwat Central Station), this route serves as a major transportation hub connecting to Thai railways and future high-speed trains, passing through Don Mueang Airport and ending at Rangsit in Pathum Thani.

• Light Red Line (Mo Chit – Taling Chan): A connecting route with the Dark Red Line, with future plans to extend from Taling Chan to Salaya in Nakhon Pathom.

• Yellow Line (Lat Phrao – Samrong): Connects to the Blue Line MRT at Ratchada (Lat Phrao Station), the Orange Line at Lam Sali, and ARL at Pattanakarn (Hua Mak ARL station). It passes through key areas like Chok Chai 4, Lat Phrao, Bang Kapi, Pattanakarn, and Srinakarin.

• Pink Line (Khae Rai – Min Buri): This route travels from Nonthaburi, a suburban area of Bangkok, to Min Buri, passing important government offices such as the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, the Royal Irrigation Department, and Muang Thong Thani.

Upcoming Electric Train Routes (Under Construction)

• Orange Line (Cultural Center – Min Buri): Expected to open in 2025, this route begins at Ratchadaphisek and Rama IX roads.

• Purple Line (Tao Poon – Rat Burana / Kanchanaphisek Ring Road):Expected to open in 2027, this route will connect both sides of Bangkok (Thonburi and Phra Nakhon) and extend to Samut Prakan province.
