Tips for Carrying Liquids on a Plane Without Any Hassles

August 6, 2024 | 293 views

It’s believed that many frequent travelers are already familiar with the rules for carrying liquids, gels, and sprays (LAGs) on a plane without issues.

However, for new travelers, there might be times when they inadvertently bring personal items or cosmetics in quantities that exceed the regulations, leading to them being prohibited from bringing them on board and having to discard them, which is unfortunate.

Let’s take a look at some tricks for carrying liquids on a plane the right way.

Liquids, Gels, and Sprays (LAGs) Refer to Items Such As:

  • Food with a high liquid content: Such as soup, water, beverages, syrup, jam, stew, sauces, chili paste.
  • Cosmetics: Such as creams, lotions, oils, perfumes.
  • Gels: Such as toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel.
  • Sprays: Such as spray cans, foam.
  • Items with a mixture of solid and liquid: Such as mascara, liquid lipstick, lip gloss.

Tips for Carrying Liquids on a Plane Without Any Problems

  • Each container must be 100 milliliters (100 cc) or less. *Even if the container is larger than 100 milliliters but contains less than 100 milliliters of liquid, it is not allowed on board.
  • All liquids must be packed in a clear plastic bag no larger than 20 x 20 centimeters, which can be sealed (like a zip-lock bag). The bag’s total capacity should not exceed 1 liter per passenger, with only one bag allowed per person.
  • If you haven’t brought a bag, you can request a free zip-lock bag from airport security personnel (Airports of Thailand – AOT). One bag per person is provided.
  • Separate the clear plastic bag containing liquids from other luggage to facilitate quick security checks.
  • Medications and baby formula/food that are necessary for the journey can be carried on board in reasonable amounts. *You should check the airline’s regulations before traveling.
  • Medications should be accompanied by a doctor’s certificate, label, or documentation that includes the passenger’s name, except for over-the-counter medications.
  • Liquids purchased from duty-free shops at the airport are allowed on board, but they must be packed in a sealed plastic bag without any signs of tampering, tearing, or opening, and proof of purchase on the day of travel must be provided. *There are no restrictions on quantity and size, but this depends on the customs regulations of the destination country.
