In traveling to Thailand, each traveler typically has different purposes, whether it is for work, business, tourism, or other reasons, and they must apply for a specific type of visa according to their purpose.

A Transit Visa (visa for travelers passing through the Kingdom of Thailand) is another type, which is issued to foreigners who wish to enter Thailand for one of the following purposes:

  1. To travel through the Kingdom (TS)
  2. To engage in sports (S)
  3. As a vehicle controller or a crew member entering a port, station, or area within the Kingdom (C)
  • The Transit Visa is valid for 3 months.
  • The duration of stay in the Kingdom is 30 days per visit.
  • The fee is 800 Baht (up to 4 times).
  • Applicants must have the following funds*:
    • 10,000 Baht per person
    • 20,000 Baht per family

*The funds required refer to the amount of money that must be carried while traveling into the Kingdom. This can be in the form of cash or documents that can be converted into cash, equivalent to the specified amount in Thai currency.

Required Documents for Application

  1. Passport or passport substitute with a validity of no less than 6 months
  2. Completed visa application form
  3. Two 2 ½ inch photographs (taken within the past 6 months, without a hat or dark glasses)
  4. Round-trip airline ticket or a ticket to travel to a third country
  5. Evidence showing the intention to leave Thailand after the stay, such as a round-trip airline ticket or a ticket to travel to a third country
  • For (TS): Visa for the third country in the passport or passport substitute
  • For (S): Invitation letter to participate in the sports competition
  • For (C): Certification that the individual is a vehicle controller or a crew member entering a port, station, or area within the Kingdom

6.Additional documents or an interview with the applicant may be requested.

Points to Note

  • Travelers waiting for a connecting flight within the airport for no more than 12 hours (without leaving the airport) do not need to apply for a Transit Visa.
  • If the wait exceeds 12 hours, a Transit Visa must be obtained from Thailand and cannot be obtained at the airport.
