Thailand Immigration Launches Online “e-Extension” Service for Visa Stay Permit Renewals

November 3, 2025 | 33 views

The Immigration Bureau of Thailand has officially launched the “e-Extension” online service, allowing foreigners to apply for a temporary stay extension without having to queue at immigration offices. The service aims to modernise public services, reduce paperwork, and improve efficiency in line with Thailand’s digital government initiative.

Applicants can submit their request via https://thaiextension.vfsevisa.com, where they fill in personal details, upload required documents, pay the application fee, and select an appointment date. On the appointment day, applicants simply visit the immigration office to verify their identity and receive the visa extension stamp. In many cases, the process takes as little as three minutes, according to Immigration Bureau reports.

The e-Extension system currently supports 12 categories of stay extensions, including tourism, study, employment in government agencies, teaching in public schools, medical treatment, being a family member of a Thai national, or applications endorsed by embassies or consulates. The service is initially available in Bangkok and has expanded to provinces such as Chiang Mai, Nakhon Sawan, Tak, and Kamphaeng Phet.

The standard extension fee is 1,900 THB, with additional service charges applying when using VFS Global or fast-track options.

This digital initiative marks a significant step in reducing congestion at immigration offices, increasing transparency, and improving convenience for expatriates and long-stay visitors. While applicants are still required to present their passport in person on the appointment date, most of the process can now be completed online.
