Identify what travellers arriving at the airport can bring with them as personal belongings and what items need to be declared or are prohibited, restricted or dutiable; along with basic procedures travellers should be aware of.

Arrival luggage check at Nothing to Declare aisle (Nothing to declare)

‘Nothing to declare’ means passengers arriving in the Kingdom have no dutiable, prohibited, or restricted goods in their possession. In this case, they can proceed through the Green Aisle. Goods exempted from Customs duty are as follows:

  • Personal belongings in appropriate amount, worth no more than 20,000 Baht in total, and are not prohibited or restricted goods or food supplies.
  • Cigarettes not more than 200 rolls or tobacco not more than 250 grams, or total weight of all cigarettes and tobacco combined not more than 250 grams.
  • Alcoholic beverage not more than 1 litre.
  • If the amount of cigarettes, tobacco, or alcoholic beverage exceeds the limit, please drop them in the box provided by Thai Customs to avoid prosecution.

Procedures
  1. Passengers with goods to declare present their passport and invoice or receipts (if any)
  2. Customs officer at Goods to Declare aisle will check passport and open luggage for goods inspection, which is divided into different cases as follows:

Customs check
  • Case 1 Personal belongings with no commercial purpose and worth no more than 200,000 Baht.
    Procedure :

    1. Customs officer at Goods to Declare aisle calculate Customs duty on deck
    2. Passenger pay the Customs duty with cash or electronic card (debit/credit card). If there is electronic payment option at the Customs Checkpoint, passenger will have to pay service fee set by the bank.
    3. Passenger take the receipt and collect their belongings
  • Case 2 Prohibited and/or restricted goods without permission from relevant agency
    Procedure : Passenger will be prosecuted
  • Case 3 Goods do not fall into either Case 1 or 2
    Procedure :

    1. Passenger prepare Import Entry and submit it to Customs Formality Sub-division, Tax and Duty Service Division, 2nd Floor, Suvarnabhumi International Airport
    2. Passenger pays Customs duty
    3. Passenger take the receipt and collect goods

  • Pornographic materials
  • Goods with Thai flag as logo or print pattern
  • Narcotics
  • Fake notes, coins, bonds, coat of arms, official seals
  • Counterfeit trademark goods or IPR infringing goods
  • Reserved animals or CITES-listed wildlife

  1. Audio cassette tapes, compact discs, videotapes, computer programs, books or any other goods reproducing or modifying copyrighted works of others (by classification of goods)
  2. Baraku/Shisha and electronic Baraku/cigarettes
  3. Game machines
  4. Elephants (by classification of goods)
  5. Statues of god or deity and parts thereof, Buddha statues and parts thereof (by classification of goods)
  6. Antiques originating in a foreign country (by classification of goods)
  7. Caffeine

Restricted goods

goods restricted from importing and exporting by law, therefore, require a permit from related government agencies. Such permits need to be presented during Customs formality.

  • Buddha images, artifacts, antiques – Issued authority by the Fine Arts Department http://nsw.finearts.go.th
  • Guns, bullets, explosives, and those equivalent to guns – Issued authority by Department of Provincial Administration, Ministry of Interior www.dopa.go.th
  • Plants and their parts – Issued authority by Department of Agriculture www.doa.go.th
