Defense Industry is one of the twelve S-Curve in the MICE industry that has already kicked off in Thailand. Its main segments are manufacturing and repairing of the defense vehicles and weapon systems
such as unmanned defense vehicles, robots for military operations, weapons and defense training aids and parts, etc.
The primary image of the “Defense Industry” in Thailand that the investment sector plans to promote as an important industry of the region focuses on the investment in manufacturing and repairing military vehicles and weapons. This can be divided into four groups as follows:
Manufacturing and Repairing Vehicles and Weapons Systems for National Defense
The first group is “Manufacturing and Repairing Vehicles and Weapons Systems for National Defense”, including tanks, armored vehicles, combat vehicles, and combat vehicle parts.
Manufacture and Repairing of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for National Defense and Parts Used in Manufacturing and Repairing
The next group was “Manufacture and Repairing of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for National Defense and Parts Used in Manufacturing and Repairing”, which are unmanned ground vehicle systems such as robots for military operations, unmanned aerial vehicle systems such as unmanned surface/underwater vehicles, unmanned aerial systems such as fixed-wing/rotary-wing/mixed-wing UAVs, specialized parts used in manufacturing and repairing, such as the body, mechanical arms, handlebars, communication systems, camera systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and batteries.
Manufacturing and Repairing of Weapons and Training Aids for National Defense and Weapons Parts
The third group is “Manufacturing and Repairing of Weapons and Training Aids for National Defense and Weapons Parts” such as firearms, rocket system ammunition including the control system of rocket launch vehicles or carriers, and specific parts used in manufacturing and repairing.
Manufacture and Repairing of combat equipment
The last group is “Manufacture and Repairing of combat equipment”, such as bulletproof vests and flak armor plates or shields.
Remark
These military industries will encourage foreign investment to build production bases in Thailand in the sector. Besides, it also enhances Thailand’s national security image.
