How to Prepare When Importing Herbal Raw Materials from Abroad

When importing herbal raw materials from abroad, in addition to the various import documents required in the normal system, important documents must be prepared by the operator upon entering the import inspection process. These crucial documents are specific and pertain to the certification of the analysis of the quality of the herbal raw materials


Documents and Important Procedures

  • A certification from the manufacturer detailing the analysis of the quality of the herbal product must be provided.
  • The product must undergo inspection at the herbal product import inspection point under the guidance of the regulatory body’s recommendations at the ministerial level.

Guidelines to be aware of when importing herbal products

  • Imported herbal raw materials must comply with the definition of ‘herbal products’ (3) as defined in Section 4 of the Herbal Product Act B.E. 2562. This includes ‘substances intended to be used as ingredients in the production of herbal products.’ For more details, refer to this link: www.dtam.moph.go.th
  • In the case of natural products derived from plants or animals, a certification showing the analysis of the product’s quality should include at least the following details:
  • Scientific name of the plant or animal used (Scientific name)
  • Part of the plant or animal used (Part used)
  • Physical appearance (Physical appearance)
  • Verification that the herbal raw materials do not contain any other foreign or adulterated substances
  • The manufacturer from the country of origin should personally sign the certification in the document detailing the analysis of the quality of the herbal product
